My mission this week is to start getting on top of speaking German in certain situations. Starting with tennis, because it’s easy.

German for tennis, is tennis.

Ball – der Ball

Balls – die bälle

Tennis racket – der Tennisschläger (aparently the word “racket” is commonly used too.)

Tennis bag – der Tennis sack

Socks – die Socken

Shoes – die Schuhe

Net – das Netz

Tennis shorts – die Tennishosen

Tennis shirt – das Tennishemd

Playing the game

The serve – der Aufschlag

Fore hand – Vordhand

Back hand – Rückhand

The line – die Linie

Line shot – long line

Drop shot – Stop shot

Talking it up!

Good shot! – Gut gemacht!

Great! – Super!

Mine! – Ich!

Zero – Null

Fifteen – fünfzehn

Thirty – dreißig

Forty – vierzig

Advantage – Vorteil

Deuce – Einstand

Ace – As

Well played – Gut gespielte

Good luck – viel Glueck

Have fun – viel Spaß

Win – gewinn

Won – gewonnen

Lost – verloren

Lose – verlieren Sie

Tired – müde

Shit! – Scheiße!
